The first Islamic Summit Conference was held in Rabat, Morocco, from September 22 to 25, 1969. This was a result of the arson attack on the Al-Aqsa Mosque in August 1969 and brought together the leaders of 24 Muslim-majority states with the objective of increasing solidarity among the Muslim countries. The conference resulted in the formation of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
