(C) 22 June
(D) 22 March
The Winter Solstice is the shortest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and occurs on December 22 (December 21 in some years). This is when the Northern Hemisphere is tilted as far as it can from the sun, resulting in the least amount of daylight and the longest night of the year. In the Southern Hemisphere, however, it is the opposite, the longest day of the year.
