The first translation of the Holy Quran was done in 1143 in Latin by English scholar and translator Robert of Ketton, who is also known as Robertus Cetenensis. This was done at the request of Peter the Venerable, and the title of the work is Lex Mahumet pseudoprophete, which means “The law of Mahomet the false prophet.” The reason for the translation was to study Islam in order to refute it.
