On September 19, 1960, a significant agreement was reached in Karachi. Known as the Indus Waters Treaty, this pact involved Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Pakistan President Mohammad Ayub Khan, and W.A.B. Iliff from the World Bank. The treaty divides the waters of the six rivers in the Indus River System between the two countries. India received control over three eastern rivers: Ravi, Beas, and Sutlej. Meanwhile, Pakistan was allocated the three western rivers: Indus, Jhelum, and Chenab.
