PNS Ghazi was Pakistan’s first long-range submarine and played a big role in the Indo-Pak wars of 1965 and 1971. PNS Ghazi was a Tench-class diesel-electric submarine—the first fast-attack sub in the Pakistan Navy. In the 1965 War, it stood alone, and just the idea of it lurking underwater kept the Indian Western Fleet stuck in Bombay harbor. Come 1971, Ghazi rolled out to the Bay of Bengal, aiming to sink the Indian aircraft carrier INS Vikrant and lay mines along the eastern coast. But on the night of December 3–4, 1971, it went down off Visakhapatnam.
