Starting out as a lawyer, A.R. Cornelius climbed to become Pakistan's fourth Chief Justice between 1960 and 1968. Not one to follow tradition blindly, he made history by being the first Christian ever appointed to that post. While serving on the bench, his earlier work during the push for Pakistan stood out - helping shape the pivotal Pakistan Resolution. After stepping down from the court, government duties called again; this time, law ministry responsibilities fell to him from 1969 until 1971.
