After Bangladesh gained independence from Pakistan in 1971, West Pakistan did not immediately recognise it as a separate country due to political and emotional tensions following the war. It was only in 1974, under Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, that Pakistan officially recognised Bangladesh, establishing diplomatic relations and taking a key step toward regional stability and international acceptance of Bangladesh’s sovereignty. Pakistan officially recognized Bangladesh on 22 February, 1974.
