Hazrat Umar (R.A) was martyred in which month of the Islamic calendar?

  • (A) Muharram
  • (B) Saffar
  • (C) Rabi-ul-Awwal
  • (D) Dhu-al Hijjah
Hazrat Umar's (R.A) martyrdom took place on the very first day of Muharram, 24 AH, although the attack on his life happened a few days earlier. The story goes that Abu Lulu Feroze inflicted a mortal stab wound upon him when he was leading the Fajr prayer at the end of Dhu al-Hijjah, and it was only after three days that he died from the injuries, which incidentally coincided with the beginning of the new Islamic year. Since his death was right on the edge of the calendar change, it is most generally celebrated on the first day of Muharram.
