Hockey was first played in which country?

Modern hockey as we know it first took shape in England back in the 1800s. Sure, games with sticks and balls were around way back in ancient Egypt, Greece, and Persia. But the field hockey we play today, with set rules and clubs, really got its start in England around the mid-19th century. The Hockey Association popped up in London in 1876 and helped get the rules down and spread the game across the globe.
