Charles Maurice de Talleyrand-Périgord was the French Minister of Foreign Affairs in the government of Napoleon Bonaparte. Talleyrand worked in several different governments throughout his career, though he was famously known as a member of the Consulate and French Empire governments of Napoleon Bonaparte, serving as Foreign Minister from 1799 to 1807. After Napoleon's fall, he represented France at the Congress of Vienna (1814–1815), where he famously managed to secure favorable terms for France despite it being a defeated power.
