The Communal Award, announced on August 16, 1932, by British Prime Minister Ramsay MacDonald, is also referred to as the MacDonald Award. The Communal Award was the outcome of the Round Table Conference held between 1930 and 1932, and it extended the concept of separate electorates to include the Depressed Classes, now referred to as the Scheduled Castes, and other minority groups.
