The Khunjerab Pass is recognized as the world’s highest paved international border crossing point, situated at an altitude of 4,693 meters (15,397 feet) above sea level. This border crossing is between Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan and Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in China. This is the highest point on the Karakoram Highway (KKH), commonly referred to as the “Friendship Road”, and is recognized as the 8th or 9th Wonder of the World. This is the major land border crossing between these two countries and is commonly referred to as the “Gateway to China”.
