The Tarbela Dam is located on the Indus River in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan, and it is the world’s largest earth-filled dam in terms of volume. Completed in 1976, the dam is 143 meters (470 feet) high and 2,743 meters (9,000 feet) long. The Tarbela Dam is an important part of the Indus Basin project, constructed for irrigation, flood control, and power production.
