The Organization of Islamic Cooperation emerged on September 25, 1969, in Rabat, Morocco. It was born out of a meeting between Muslim leaders during the arson assault on Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. The key aim at its formation was to unite Muslims worldwide and protect their interests.
