In January 2015, Pakistan’s Parliament enacted the Constitution (Twenty-first Amendment) Act to establish fast-track courts for the trial of terrorism-related cases in military courts. The crucial part of this legislation was included in Section 1(3), which provided a sunset clause for the legislation. The legislation was to remain in force for two years from the date of its commencement. Accordingly, the legislation lapsed on January 7, 2017.
