The border was established in 1893 between Afghanistan and Pakistan but then was known as British India. The border extends for a total of 2,611 km, although in various instances, depending on who was involved in the measurement, it has been accepted as spanning a distance equivalent to 2,430 km, 2,252 km, among others. In most cases, it has been commonly approximated that it spans approximately 2,640 km, or 1,640 miles.
