The Karachi Nuclear Power Plant, called KANUPP-1, was built with the assistance of Canada. Constructed by Canadian General Electric, it started operations in 1971 with a CANDU-type reactor of 125/137 MW capacity. Although assistance for the subsequent reactors at the same location (K-2 and K-3) came from China, the first KANUPP was a joint Canadian-Pakistani venture.
