Which disease is more common in males than females?
(A) Heart attack
(B) Dementia
(C) Color blindness
(D) Hypertension
Color blindness is much more common in men because it is associated with an X-linked recessive gene. Guys have only one X chromosome, which is XY. If that one X chromosome has the defective gene, then color blindness occurs. Women have two X chromosomes, which are XX. If one of the X chromosomes has the defective gene, then they won’t be color blind because the other gene will override it, unless both X chromosomes have the defective gene.
