Which is the second source of Islamic Jurisprudence?
(A) The Holy Quran
(B) Ijma
(C) Hadiths
(D) Ijtihad
According to the Islamic theory of jurisprudence (Usul al-Fiqah), there is a consensus among the scholars on the hierarchy of sources to be used to arrive at a legal decision. After the Holy Quran comes the Sunnah/Hadith as the second pillar of the Islamic legal system. The Quran provides the basic laws of God, while the Hadiths—the sayings, practices, and approvals of the Prophet Muhammad—attempt to clarify the Quranic verses.
