(D) Toot
When Pakistan came into existence in 1947, it had four working oil fields. These were Khaur, Dhullian, Joya Mair, and Balkassar. Since then, four more oil fields have been discovered. These are Karsal, Tut, Sarang, and Mayal. These oil fields are all situated on the Potwar Plateau. Traces of oil have been found at other locations too, and work is going on in Punjab, Sindh, and Baluchistan with the cooperation of various foreign companies and the Oil and Gas Development Corporation.
The Karsal Oil Field has the distinction of being Pakistan’s first oil field discovered after independence. Situated a short distance northwest of Balkassar and connected to it by a pipeline, the oil is deposited in limestone in the exposed Karsal Anticline structure. It has the same quality as the Balkassar oil. This was followed by more discoveries on the Potwar Plateau, the Toot Oil Field in 1968, and subsequently Sarang and Meyal Oil Fields, all of which are now coming on stream.
