The man arrested in the context of the Rawalpindi conspiracy of 1951 was Faiz Ahmed Faiz. Faiz was prominent in his support of left-wing thought, his work as editor of The Pakistan Times, and his involvement in the Progressive Writers' Movement. Faiz, together with Major General Akbar Khan and Sajjad Zaheer, was accused of assisting in the botched coup to overthrow Prime Minister Liaquat Ali Khan's government. Faiz was arrested in March 1951 and remained in prison for four years, during which he also wrote some of his best-known work, such as the poetry books Dast-e-Saba and Zindan-Nama. Even in chains in prison, Faiz wrote the famous lines "Aaj bazaar mein pa-ba-jolan chalo" as he was being transported to jail. Faiz was released in 1955.
