Yitzhak Rabin served Israel as both a statesman and military leader during two different periods as Prime Minister from 1974 to 1977 and from 1992 until his death in 1995. Rabin who served as a general in the Israel Defense Forces became an important leader in both the military and political history of Israel before he played a major role in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process which earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994.
