The penultimate (second to last) Viceroy of India was (C) Lord Wavell. Lord Wavell served as Viceroy from 1943 to 1947, immediately preceding Lord Mountbatten, who was the last Viceroy and oversaw the partition of India in 1947.
Lord Irwin: He served as Viceroy from 1926 to 1931, several years before the end of British rule.
Lord Curzon: He was an earlier Viceroy, serving from 1899 to 1905, most famous for the partition of Bengal.
Lord Mountbatten: He was the ultimate (last) Viceroy of British India, serving in 1947 and overseeing the transition to independence.
