"Widow's Tears" is most widely recognized as the name of a plant. It is not a single species, but a collective name for a number of species in the spiderwort family (Commelinaceae). It is most commonly associated with species in two genera: Commelina, for example Commelina erecta, or whitemouth dayflower, and Tradescantia, or common spiderwort.
Additional Information: Widow's Tears is the name of an ephemeral, high-drop waterfall located in Yosemite National Park, California. It is situated on the south wall of Yosemite Valley, near the better-known Silver Strand Falls, and typically flows for only six to eight weeks in spring. It is often associated with a total drop of over 1,000 feet.
